Gino Pozzo – Born To Be A Football Owner

As the owner of the Watford Football team based in England Gino Pozzo comes from a family with a rich football heritage. Gino’s father Gianpaolo used profits from the family tool making company to purchase the Italian Udinese Calcio Football Club in 1986. That team was the family’s hometown team.

In fact, the family became so involved in the ownership and management of their football club that they sold the tool making company to further concentrate on football.

This move demonstrated that the Pozzo family was willing to use the passion they felt for their hometown team that despite the financial issues the club had when the family purchased the team, Udinese Calcio Football Club was able to in only three season to advance from a Series B team to the Champions League. This very impressive progress for the team shows how the family leadership made a significant difference for the team.

Gino Pozzo became the mastermind the success of the Udinese team. Adding to the family’s football ownership Gino purchased the Barcelona based Grenada Football Club in2000 while living in Spain. The team was struggling under a debt of 12 million Euros and within two short years Gino Pozzo had turned it around and the team was able to advance from Segunda B to the Primera Liga. This was the first time in 35 years that this happened for the team.

Using the expertise and experience Gino Pozzo had gained he purchased the Watford Football Club in England in 2012. To manage the process of eliminating the team’s debts, Pozzo and his family moved to London. With this purchase the Pozzo family became the only family to own three football clubs in three different European countries. Eventually Pozzo sold the Grenada FC to concentrate more on the Udinese and Watford clubs.
