Saudi Arabian conglomerate Abdul Latif Jameel has announced the launch of ‘Jameel Motorsport’, consolidating its 26-year involvement in racing and automotive sports under a single brand as part of its contribution to Saudi Vision 2030.
The initiative represents a strategic expansion of the company’s role in developing motorsport both nationally and internationally, building on decades of experience in automotive distribution and racing sponsorship.
“We take immense pride in our role within the collective efforts of diverse public and private entities in the Kingdom, resulting in noteworthy accomplishments in the realm of sports,” said Hassan Jameel, Deputy President and Vice Chairman of Abdul Latif Jameel, speaking at the launch event in Jeddah.
Jameel Motorsport will unify the company’s various racing initiatives, including the Saudi Toyota Championship and Rally Jameel, while continuing its tradition of nurturing emerging talent—a journey that began with the sponsorship of Captain Abdullah Bakhashab in 1997.
The initiative comes at a time when Saudi Arabia is establishing itself as a significant presence on the global motorsport calendar, with substantial investments in sports infrastructure, events and tourism attracting international competitors and spectators.
A recent highlight of these efforts was the launch of the GR Saudi Driving School, developed in collaboration with the Saudi Automobile & Motorcycle Federation (SAMF). This partnership led to the formation of the ‘GR Saudi’ Team, which has achieved notable success in the current season of the Saudi Toyota Championship.
“The achievements we celebrate today are largely attributable to the genuine support extended by various stakeholders,” Mr. Jameel acknowledged, specifically recognizing the collaboration with SAMF under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al Abdullah Al Faisal.
The third edition of Rally Jameel, now organized under the Jameel Motorsport umbrella, will welcome women participants from around the world, marking a significant step in promoting female participation in Saudi sports—a key objective of Vision 2030.
The formation of Jameel Motorsport aligns with Abdul Latif Jameel’s broader business strategy. Under Hassan Jameel’s leadership, the company has diversified beyond its core automotive distribution business, where it has served as Toyota’s authorized distributor in Saudi Arabia since 1955.
Founded by Hassan’s grandfather with a single gas station in 1945, ALJ has grown into a global conglomerate operating across mobility, real estate, financial services, energy, and other sectors, with a presence in more than 30 countries.
With Jameel Motorsport, the company aims to harness the competitive innovation inherent in racing to provide extraordinary prospects for young Saudi men and women, contributing to the Kingdom’s goals of developing local talent and diversifying its economy beyond oil.
