From Berklee to Austin Greg Soros, Podcaster, Rethinks AI Production

Greg Soros learned the technical side of audio at Berklee College of Music. He later held senior roles at prominent media companies. Today the podcaster and entrepreneur runs Podcraft Media Lab out of a converted garage studio on Austin’s East Side, and his approach to artificial intelligence has set the company apart.

Soros does use AI, but selectively. He has pinpointed particular jobs where automation adds value without weakening the creative work. Transcription, initial audio cleanup, and metadata organization fall into that category. So does using machine learning to find the best places for ads and to study audience engagement patterns.

Keeping Editors in the Chair

Everything involving editorial judgment stays with people. Greg Soros podcaster believes that is where a show’s character lives. He locates podcasting’s appeal in subtle human moments, like a well-timed silence or a laugh nobody saw coming. “You can’t algorithm your way to authenticity,” he says.

He has also seen the alternative. “We’ve seen producers completely automate their workflow and wonder why their content feels sterile,” Soros explains.

The Numbers Behind the Philosophy

Podcraft Media Lab’s results suggest his method holds up commercially. Production timelines have fallen by about 35%, while the company maintains the premium quality that attracts its clients. The hours saved now go to narrative development and sound design.

Loyalty is high as well. More than 95% of clients stay with the company, and 40% of new engagements come by referral. Several shows produced under his supervision have earned industry recognition.

Analysts observe that the podcast market is maturing, and they view this balanced model favorably. Leaning too hard on AI can commoditize content. Ignoring technology, meanwhile, tends to drag down operational efficiency.

For Greg Soros, the lesson comes down to one sentence. “Technology should amplify human creativity, not replace it,” the podcaster says, describing a business model meant to serve creators and listeners alike as automation spreads. See related link for more information.
