Akeem Jamal

Akeem Jamal, MBA, is an Experienced communications specialist working in the administration of Yonkers’ Mayor and a vital team member in charge of establishing and promoting the City of Yonkers’ agenda.

Jamal has been a dedicated public servant over the years. He was influential in various projects for Mayor Spano’s administration, including Census 2020, a campaign aimed at increasing participation in the 2020 Census and emphasizing the crucial necessity of counting everyone. He was a member of the successful team that saw Yonkers rise from fourth to the third largest city in New York State.

Jamal was also a key figure in Ban The Barges, an advocacy effort opposing the Maritime Association’s proposal to create barge anchoring sites on the Hudson River from Yonkers to Kingston.

Akeem Jamal is an active community member, devoting his time and talents to various charities. He was a staunch supporter of the Muslim community throughout his career, acting as the City of Yonkers’ liaison on the Muslim American Advisory Council of Yonkers. He fought for Muslim holidays to be observed in Yonkers Public Schools.

Jamal holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Pace University Lubin School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in arts in communications and media studies from Fordham University.

Jamal was recently named as the Assistant Vice President, Communications & Public Affairs at Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation due to his talent and showing of the requisite poise required to raise Roosevelt Island’s public reputation.

The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation was established by the State of New York established in 1984 with the aim of planning, designing, developing, and maintaining Roosevelt Island.

RIOC is committed to providing services that improve the island’s residential community by focusing on innovative and ecologically responsible solutions. RIOC manages the island’s roads, parks, buildings, sports facilities, and public transportation, including the famed aerial tramway. In addition, RIOC has a Public Safety Department that works to keep locals, business owners, and visitors safe and secure.
