When you’re from New York, keeping your guard when approaching new people and places is hard. So with great trust, we left our hearts with a stranger and his pizza parlor on a lonely stretch of road in the middle of the mountains outside Asheville, NC. With no evil intentions whatsoever, Happy Joe’s Pizza & Ice Cream Parlor opened its doors to us with open arms.
Happy Joe’s welcomes us with hands covered in flour and a soul so full of happiness. This, not just because they serve some killer slices but because they know they can change the world with their food. So we fell head over heels (and empty stomachs) for this weirdly wonderful place that only exists in fairy tales or small towns like Marshall, TN.
Happy Joe’s is the magical place where anything can happen to you. You could walk in the door and get asked if you want to watch David Lynch or Pink Floyd movies on their projector screen. You might be served by an elf who’s too busy dancing around frantically to notice what a giant order of homemade root beer floats you have in front of you.
We are sure that it doesn’t matter when we pay attention and take note; this magical little spot only serves up some of the best pizza, ice cream, and root beer float creations in all the land (Twitter).
We were lucky enough to try everything on their menu, which includes not just standard eats, but pizza cut into unique shapes with names like The African Queen, The Big Lebowski, Lord of the Rings and even The Pooner – a bizarrely adorable creation which is possibly one of our favorites, a fried cheese laden hot dog with pepperoncini. Patrons at Happy Joe´s can enjoy freshly made pizzas, subs, salads, and a variety of Joe’s homemade recipes.
