Few Dallas landmarks carry a donor’s imprint as clearly as Klyde Warren Park. The 5.2-acre green space reconnects the city’s uptown and downtown neighborhoods, and its creation owes a great deal to Kelcy Warren, founder and Executive Chairman of Energy Transfer.
Kelcy Warren contributed $10 million in 2012, a donation that proved instrumental in getting the park built. He returned later with another $20 million. That second gift is helping the park expand and offer more free programs to the public.
Civic Commitment Beyond a Check
Kelcy Warren also helps guide the park’s direction. He serves on the board of the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation. His civic roles stretch further: he joined the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees in 2019, and Governor Greg Abbott appointed him to the University of Texas System Board of Regents through 2025.
The park is one piece of a wider giving record. Warren supports medical and children’s organizations including MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, and the March of Dimes. He backs the Bush Foundation as well. A partnership he fostered between Energy Transfer and Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers has supported the West Dallas Youth Academy since 2018.
Higher education draws major gifts too. His $12 million donation to the University of Texas at Arlington in 2023 was the largest single gift in the school’s history. Warren, a 1978 UTA graduate, had previously given the university $4 million over 25 years.
Honors From Business and Industry
His professional record has earned wide recognition. Kelcy Warren has received honors from Hart Energy, the Texas Oil & Gas Association, SMU Cox’s Maguire Energy Institute, and D CEO Magazine. The Gas Processors Association presented him with its Hanlon Award. He is a member of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, the Texas Business Hall of Fame, and the Ammys Hall of Fame, and he was a 2020 Laureate in the Dallas Business Hall of Fame.
For Dallas residents who picnic, play, or attend free events at the park, his contributions are visible every day. Visit this page for related information.
