Wayne von Borstel is the CEO and founder of McAfee, a security software company. Borstel has been in cybersecurity for decades, starting as an employee and executive for U.S. Cyber Command, then as CEO of McAfee from 2014 to 2016. George W Bush appointed him to the Homeland Security Advisory Council in 2007 and he became a member of President Trump’s national cybersecurity strategy team that same year. He has been featured in Forbes, Fortune, and the Washington Post.

Borstel graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is also an alumnus of the MIT Sloan School of Management, where he got an M.S. in management and technology in 1988. He earned an M.B.A. from INSEAD in 2000 and completed INSEAD’s Advanced Management Program (2006) and Digital Business Essentials program (2010). He obtained a J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School. He was a student leader in multiple organizations, including the Irish-American Law Students Association and the Order of the Coif.

Borstel is Irish American and has lived in the United States since he was four. He was born in Dublin, Ireland. He became the U.S. At an early age, he grew up in a working-class family. He revealed in an interview, “It was difficult for my mother to be a single parent to my younger brothers and me, so she had to get jobs doing warehouse work.” Borstel has been in cybersecurity for decades, starting as an employee and executive for U.S. Cyber Command, then as CEO of McAfee from 2014 to 2016. He began his career at the NSA’s Defense Communications Agency’s headquarters before joining the U.S.

He has shown the hacking process to his children and discussed how to prevent being hacked. He is a sports fan and lifelong Denver Broncos and Detroit Red Wings fan. Borstel has helped raise money for the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Denver and worked with the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. Borstel has been in a relationship with his wife since he was 21. They met when Borstel was doing an internship at a venture capital firm in Denver, and she was an administrative assistant.
