In 2001, three men joined together and formed a company called BAM. Those three gentlemen are named Dmitry Balyasny, Scott Schroeder and Taylor O’Malley. They opened a small office in Chicago, Illinois. Today that business has offices all over the world and employs over 700 people in the work of investment professionals. In 2008, David Black joined the company and is currently the Director Business Development. David Black was an advisor to BAM prior to going to work directly with the company.
Many of the reasons that BAM has grown and prospered is their business philosophy and vision. BAM and its people are always seeking to improve and innovate. They engage in advanced research, the better use of technology and to using all tools available to them to enhance the returns generated for investors. As they strive to accomplish their goals, they understand that each day, trust must be earned and performance maintained. These are things they never take for granted.
There are key performance measures they work to maintain and enhance. They are:
1. Perseverance and adaptability – This is demonstrated by their commitment to managing through change and adapting to the volatility shown in today’s investment world.
2. Innovative risk taking-The professionals at BAM are always seeking new ideas and using them to enhance their work on behalf of investors. At the same time they deliberate how to best use these ideas within their business model.
3. Constant learning and development- At BAM complacency is not a value. They work to constantly delve into new ideas.
4. Initiative- When they see an opportunity they delve into it immediately and are often ahead of the curve.
5. Humility- In major investment firms this is a value not much emphasized these days. At BAM they always strive to learn new things and remember always that entitlement and arrogance have no place in their world.
6. Partnership- At BAM people act and think like they were long term business owners with the accompanying mind set. They all strive to make every decision based on how to make things better for all.
BAM takes its philosophy seriously and attributes much of its success on the adherence to their corporate and personal principles. View Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point72_Asset_Management
