He joined the school at the age of 5 when he was in kindergarten and has been in school ever since. Although a bit of a glitch led him to high school, he has never skipped a grade. He attended segregated schools in areas that African Americans and Hispanics predominately filled. Although this may not have been the best place for him to follow, it gave him an appreciation of learning more than most children his age. After all, he had to begin learning early due to his glaring educational shortcomings. He graduated high school at age 17 and was easily accepted into several colleges. He was never confronted with racism, unlike most of his white peers, and he rose above the educational disadvantages he once endured.

Gary McGaghey has worked hard his entire life, which has paid off immensely. He began working at an early age because he could not afford to attend college, but he also wanted to earn money in college. Although his high school experience was not the best, he overcame some of his struggles by returning to work after school. Although university would be more enjoyable for him, he prefers working where he can make money by the hour.
McGaghey contributed to growth in the fields of science and education. He attended a university focused on these fields and found a job right after graduation. McGaghey has also been able to publish in several journals and has contributed greatly to various areas of concentration. He has been able to find success in a field that African Americans and Hispanics once dominated.
