How Family Roots Have Influenced the Food Served by Amy’s Kitchen

Amy’s KitchenAmy’s Kitchen was started in 1987 my Rachel and Andy Berliner. They had just had their baby girl who they named Amy and later named the business after her. They wanted to create amazing vegetarian food to satisfy vegans looking for such food. The idea was sparked by Andy failing to find great vegetarian food for Rachel when she was pregnant and on bedrest.

The first meal made by Amy’s Kitchen was vegetarian pot pie. This hand-made delicacy was made using organic ingredients. Within no time, the demand for this increased and the Berliners had to look for a space bigger than their home kitchen. The first store was opened in Sonoma County in June 1988. While here, the menu expanded to include boritos and mac & cheese. The menu has since been growing and so has the number of branches and people served. They serve over a million foods per day in stores located in 11 different countries.

Regardless of their exponential growth, Amy’s Kitchen has maintained the tasty foods you would get from a family kitchen. How? They use high-quality ingredients sourced from local farmers who practice organic farming. This kind of farming is good for the environment and future generations. Every food served at Amy’s is GMO-free.

What makes a homemade meal so special? The love and care with which it is made! This is something that Amy’s Kitchen values and all recipes are made with love. High quality ingredients are used by highly trained chefs to come up with tasty and healthy foods at a large scale. This is not to say that the food is manufactured. The food is prepared like it would be in a home kitchen. The dough is mixed by hand, sauces are simmered for hours and the pizza crust is hand-stretched. It requires a lot of hard work but this is what makes Amy’s food special. It tastes just like home!
