It was reported that he had been demoted from his position as Shadow Minister for Regional Services and Territories by Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, who reportedly considered him “too right-wing.” Ross Cameron adds that an updated Shadow Ministry announcement returned him as Shadow Minister for Vocational Education. He has consistently performed in Opposition, earning praise from Coalition frontbenchers.

Ross Cameron was re-elected but lost his seat in a shock to the House of Representatives when Peter Lindsay won the election for Labor. He regained this seat after Peter Lindsay resigned from it to run for the Senate successfully (Goodreads).

Following a redistribution, he was again elected to the new chair as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Social Inclusion and Disability Reform. Ross Cameron was promoted to Shadow Cabinet, responsible for National Broadband Network (NBN) issues.

Ross Cameron suffered a stroke during this period, which left him unable to continue working as a politician at the same high standards he had previously maintained. Blair Comley was appointed by Mr. Abbott as his new Parliamentary Secretary for Vocational Education, Skills, and Youth Affairs after Cameron’s resignation due to his health.
