Amy’s Kitchen is a food company that produces and markets a wide range of natural and organic convenience foods. It was founded in 1987 by Andy and Rachel Berliner to supply healthy and nutritious foods to clients across the United States.
The restaurant’s journey started when Rachel was on bed rest during her pregnancy. Her husband looked for ready-made meals around their natural grocery store but found nothing that suited their tastes.
Therefore, they decided to make their own, and their first meal was a pot pie following Rachel’s mother’s recipe. They opened their first full-sized kitchen in June 1988 in Sonoma County with eight employees, including Andy and Rachel.
As their kitchen grew, they expanded their menu, adding mac & cheese and burritos. Instead of manufacturing their foods like other restaurants, they made everything in their kitchen with fresh ingredients.
Therefore, they have grown their ingredients in organic gardens since their first pot pie. Today, even with bigger farms, they have tried to remain local, working with the farmers to choose the best quality seeds and farming products for rich-flavored harvests.
Today, they supply over 135 organic packaged and frozen foods across the United States and over 28 more countries. To accommodate all clients, they have vegan, lactose-free, dairy-free, Kosher D, tree nut-free, soy-free, Kosher D, corn-free, and light in sodium varieties.
Besides offering unmatched customer service, Amy’s Kitchen focuses on sustainability and environmental preservation. Therefore, they joined Gigaton Power Purchase Agreement in 2022. This is a renewable energy accelerator from Walmart to supply renewable energy.
The agreement will provide wind power, expected to power around 30% of the restaurant’s operations. That will bring them over a third of their 2030 RE 100 goal.
Amy’s Kitchen’s success has seen it recognized as the number one vegetarian and organic canned and frozen food.
While its high-quality ingredients and excellent food offering hugely contribute to the restaurant’s success, its management team also has a huge part to play. In February 2023, they introduced five new leadership roles to support their expansion efforts and strategic goals.
The added positions were chief supply chain officer, supply chain planning vice president, senior engineering director, human resource vice president, and communications senior director.
