For years, a high-speed railway connecting Las Vegas and Los Angeles has been talked about, but that project has not seen the light of day. However, until recently, little progress had been made towards developing such a railway. In addition, due to the coronavirus outbreak, construction was postponed indefinitely.

The Company behind this project, Brightline West L.L.C., targets the completion of track laying work this December and the service start later this year. Hopes are high that this new mode of transit will revolutionize travel between southern Nevada and California.

Some leftover lands may be used to build a new arena for a professional basketball team. The Oak View Group would build the new arena. Another proposal suggests turning part of the land into an entertainment complex. That plan involves a group called Oak View Group.

Sisolak said the site has the potential to be a hub, and with significant funding from every state in place via individual private activity bonds, he believes the time is right for rail construction.

Since the beginning of the project, Wes Edens said that the team was just one yard from being able to deliver the first phase of the project. With work continuing behind the scenes, Edens said he expects the team will make good progress toward completing the project.

For those seeking a new arena, a recent proposal would bring an entertainment complex to the site of Miami Arena, where the Heat plays home games. That plan was announced last month — just a week after the N.B.A. franchise relocated from South Florida to suburban Chicago. A second developer wants to build a 30,000-seat arena near Marlins Park and put a soccer team into it. Both projects could cost millions of dollars.

Wes Edens told the Journal earlier this year that the project is at the one-yard line and is expected to reach the end zone by the end of this year.
